Guiding principles for in situ conservation efforts

At Copenhagen Zoo, our in sity conservation efforts - those carried out in animals' natural habitats - are guided by a set of core principles.
These guiding principles ensure that all our efforts are collaborative, locally rooted, focused on building capacity, long-term, evidence-based and credible.

These principles have been shaped by the Zoo's conservation work, development and experience over the past three decades.
Being directly involved where the work takes place is important to us. That is why we prioritise building our own teams - both in the field and in the laboratory. This allows us to directly and effectively influence initiatives, processes and policies, and to carry out conservation work in some of the world's most critical areas.
