Together, we protect the world’s animals
Copenhagen Zoo is active across six continents. We work locally, nationally and internationally – and actively help secure the future of threatened species through research, breeding programmes and partnerships.
We are the only zoo in Denmark with all of these resources in-house, including vets, biologists, researchers and conservation teams. That gives us both the expertise and the responsibility to take action.
With our own teams, we have spent decades working in some of the places where wildlife needs us most – whether that is a pond on Hjortø, a rainforest in Brazil or a national park in Africa.
Our purpose
As we say: Together, we protect the world’s animals. This is Copenhagen Zoo’s primary purpose in everything we do, both within the and beyond.
Our latest strategy helps position Copenhagen Zoo as a forward-looking, well-run and socially relevant cultural institution – recognised for the results we achieve for nature and biodiversity, and for our work with breeding threatened species, research, education and conservation around the world.
As an organisation, we take responsibility and set high ambitions for how, through a shared effort, we can do even more to protect the world’s animals – and each other.

Articles of Association of Copenhagen ZOO
The zoo’s Articles of Association set out the foundation for how the organisation operates and cover its purpose, structure and areas of responsibility. They outline the overall framework for the zoo’s activities, including conservation, education, research, animal welfare and engagement with the public. The Articles of Association also set out the rules governing the work of the Board of Directors, financial management, and the rights and obligations of members.
Copenhagen Zoo’s Articles of Association provide the foundation for its vision and values and help ensure that the organisation operates in accordance with its objectives within conservation, the environment and education.
ZOO’s Annual Reports
The annual reports provide an overview of what has happened across the zoo’s different areas of work during the past year. These include, among other things, the animal population, conservation, environmental initiatives and finances, as well as new enclosures and exhibitions.
ZOO’s ESG Reports
The ESG reports provide an overview of ZOO’s work on environmental, social and governance matters. Their purpose is to create transparency, structure and direction in our sustainability efforts, and to document how we turn our purpose – “Together, we protect the world’s animals” – into concrete action.
