New experiences are taking shape at ZOO

We're currently improving the facilities for the elephants and refurbishing parts of the Savannah. This means that certain areas are temporarily closed off and some animals may not always be visible. Fortunately, there are still plenty of activities and animals to discover.

The Savannah is getting a refresh

The Savannah has been around for quite a few years, so it's time to give parts of the enclosure a makeover. From late October to mid-December 2026, we'll be replacing side panels, posts and other elements.

While work is underway, some of the Savannah animals may not be visible every day. You can still visit the hippos, giraffes and rhinos in their indoor enclosures, while the sable antelopes can be seen near the okapi.

A new surface for the elephants

We're currently improving the facilities for the elephants in the Elephant House. The existing sand substrate is being replaced with a so-called biobed, which resembles a natural forest floor.

The new surface is softer and gentler on the elephants' feet and joints. It also produces less dust, making it more comfortable for visitors too.

While work is underway, the elephants may be less visible than usual.

Plan your day at ZOO
